“too much is enough” finds Ecuadorian artist Daniela Torres reorienting her practice toward herself. She trades the eurocentric visual language she absorbed since moving to Germany in 2010, with its muted palettes, minimalist restraint, and cult of the “effortless,” for a maximalist approach to nostalgia that re-saturates colour and embraces collective, multi-medium, and imperfect making.
Known for dissecting masculinity through male nudes and ceramic d*ck workshops, she now turns her gaze inward, examining her cultural background and how migration has shaped her aesthetic and conceptual vocabulary. Together with curator Tania Luz Olivares Achach, both Latin American and both western-educated, she unpacks and unlearns the unspoken guidelines of a discourse that has long dismissed craft, collectivity, and cultural intensity as “tacky” or “less than.”
Staged in her own studio among older works, the exhibition becomes an invitation to witness a practice in progress: reclaiming heritage not by making it palatable for western eyes but by letting it be decorative, excessive, and wholly her own. We hope you’ll join us <3
